Rolled and sloped roofing systems, including asphalt shingles, use dry ground mica to prevent sticking between adjacent layers. In construction, mica is widely incorporated into joint compounds to conceal surface imperfections and fill gaps on gypsum wallboards. It primarily functions as a filler and extender, ensuring a smooth, uniform finish while minimizing the risk of cracking.
Ground mica also finds critical application in the oil-well drilling industry, where it enhances drilling mud systems. The coarsely ground mica flakes act as a sealant, bridging porous sections in the borehole, and simultaneously aiding the circulation of drilling fluids. Its natural properties improve operational efficiency while providing durability under demanding conditions.
